Restaurant Review

Pindi – A weekend dinner at the legacy Restaurant

Pindi is not just any restaurant, there is a story associated with it. The story is almost as old as independent India, a story which dates back to the time of partition of India. A young man named Kasturi Lal travelled all the way from Rawalpindi to Delhi and started to sell home cooked authentic Punjabi food on a cart near India Gate. And now, after 67 years and three generations of serving authentic Punjabi food the legacy restaurant has opened in namma Bengaluru.

Location: 15, 13th Cross, 9th Main, Sector 6, HSR, Bangalore.

Ambience:

The place has a dimly lit roof top; hanging pots, cool breeze makes it a perfect place for a relaxed evening dinner or a romantic date. There is an indoor air conditioned seating area well lit, which also hosts a mini bar. This area also has graffiti which highlights the specialties of Delhi. The miniature models which are on display, perfect lightning arrangements only adds to the simple yet beautiful décor. The lunch buffet is put up in this very indoor seating area.

I was here with a couple of friends on a Friday evening dinner and the review is for the same.

Starters and Drinks:

We started with ginger lemonade, with the strong ginger flavor and the subtle mint flavor the drink was so refreshing. We also tried a couple of mocktails including aam panna, guava based mocktail and a watermelon based mocktail, everything gets a perfect score.

Paneer Kurkure one of my personal favorite, soft chunks of paneer dipped in an in house made special chutney and then coated with papad! Haven’t I said enough already about the dish! Bhatti ka Murgh has an amazing masala flavor in every bite without overpowering the original meat taste. A must try for chicken lovers. Hariyali Sheekh Kebab, Bharwan Chutney wale Aloo, Kashmiri kebab and Mutton Galauti Kebab are couple of other starters we tried.

One notable thing about the food is that they prepare every chutney, every masala in house and all the ingredients is brought all the way from delhi; this includes paneer as well. So much to retain the authenticity!

Main Course:

Murgh Makhani aka Butter Chicken, this is the very dish with which the restaurant was started with! I must say one of the best I have ever had and of course the recipe is their best kept secret. And this is one of the few places where they use big chunks of boned chicken in the preparation and not small boneless chunks which is usually the case. Perfectly cooked chicken with amazing flavors from the masala.

Pindi Channa, another signature dish, well presented. The channa was well cooked and perfectly blended with the masala.

Dal Makhani, laden with desi ghee the dish looked amazing, but I can only say it wasn’t as impressive as it looked.

Kadai Paneer, huge chunks of paneer all well-cooked, had absorbed all the flavors from the gravy well.

The main course was served with assorted bread and Hara Daniya Mutter Pulao.

Desserts:

Gulab Jamun, I can never ever say no to this dessert. Soft and delicious.

Fruit Cream, there were fresh cut fruits and cream; well liquidy cream, failed to impress me.
